TATSUKI SHIRAI

Sikkim 2010-2011 

Sikkim, a small northeastern state of India bordered by Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan, used to be a kingdom of  the eastern Himalayas. For my fieldwork, I stayed there for one and half years (2010-2011) as the first overseas student of Sikkim University. The people, landscape, and scent of the land which has been embracing various historical and cultural back-grounds enchant me even now.

シッキムは、チベット・ネパール・ブータンに囲まれたインド北東部の州で、1975年まで東ヒマラヤの王国だった。フィールドワークのためシッキム大学初の海外留学生として1年半滞在した。様々な歴史的・文化的背景を抱きこんできた土地の人々と風景と匂いが、いまも心を遠くへさらっていく。
